HARVESTING FOREST CROPS

The objective of this course is to examine timber harvest engineering
methods, tree and log sale layouts, and development of timber sale
contracts. Field trips will focus on methods used to cruise
timber, to evaluate log value, and to harvest timber.
Environmental considerations of harvesting will be addressed.

About the
course:
Lectures will cover material in the text and from additional
readings. Field trips will be conducted on Monday afternoon
during the semester. Field trips will include the following
(tentative): Road building, timber sales, timber cruising
(softwoods and hardwoods), log scaling in log yards, and logging
operations. A fee of $25.00 is required to cover the costs of the
vans. This must be paid to Bonnie Middleton before the first
field trip.

system: Two one-hour
exams - 100 points each
Final exam - 150 points
