The purpose of this exercise is to illustrate the importance of an urban or community forestry program. Community forestry programs are more than a city-run landscaping service. There are many more components to urban forestry than the general public may be aware. Community forestry easily covers issues such as economic development, community revitalization, energy budgets, storm water mitigation, and a myriad of other critical issues. Another point to be made is that trees are more than a liability. Community trees provide multiple benefits to all communities and are a valuable resource that require appropriate management.
